Designer Willi Smith was one of the first Black designers to have a successful career in the American fashion industry. His street-style fashions were often inspired by New York City dwellers' daily lives. Smith began his career in the garment industry as a designer for junior sportswear brand Digits. For Smith fashion was a family affair. His sister and muse Doris "Toukie" Smith poses in his 1972 fall junior sportswear collection for Digits near Herald Square Park in New York on April 26, 1972.
