For his 34th couture collection for the House of Dior, designer Marc Bohan's debut of the "Gigi” dress added a modern touch of glamour to Christian Dior's "New Look" of 1947. Bohan's fall 1977 presentation included this short, sheer, layered black mousseline dress, with whalebone corseting and a cinched waist. The "Gigi” dress, a fresh interpretation of Parisian chic, was captured on a model at Dior's Avenue Montaigne headquarters for Women's Wear Daily's French haute couture previews on July 18, 1977.
