Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré, dubbed the “architect of fashion,” exalted femininity in his tailored suits and ornately embellished eveningwear. But Ferré's signature white shirts will always be associated with his status as an elite designer. Designed to be a wardrobe staple, Ferré's white shirts showcased his skill in shape and cut accentuated by ruffles, collars, and cuffs. Ferré also used the same techniques in his fall 1991 ready-to-wear collection. In a photo taken of a model walking through the streets of Milan on February 28, 1991, a white coat with fur trim appears angular and sleek.
